Wallet Backup
Your own encrypted copy of your wallet, and how to keep it safe.
Fiber doesn't hand you a seed phrase to write down. Instead, you can export an encrypted backup of your wallet seed whenever you like. With the backup file and its password, Fiber's recovery tools give you the private keys for your wallet's addresses on your own device.
What the backup is
- A file: a
.fiberseedfile named likefiber-wallet-backup-2026-10-28.fiberseed. - What's in it: your wallet seed, encrypted with a password you choose. Opening the file shows encrypted data, not words. That's expected, because Fiber wallets don't use a 12- or 24-word recovery phrase, and none exists to show.
- One per account: each Fiber account has its own wallet and its own backup.
- How sensitive it is: anyone with the file and its password can take every asset in your wallet. Store them separately, and never share either one, including with Fiber support.
Export your backup
On mobile, go to Settings > Security > Export wallet seed. On the web, go to Settings > Backup & export.
- Choose a File password of at least 12 characters, and enter it again to confirm. This is a new password for this file only. It is not your Fiber sign-in, and it never leaves your device.
- Tick the box confirming you understand you are responsible for the file and password, then tap Download encrypted seed.
- Confirm it's you. Fiber sends a code to your verified email or phone, or, if extra protection is on, asks for a passkey, an authenticator code, or a backup code. If App Lock is on, Fiber asks for Face ID or your passcode too. You need a verified email or phone, or a passkey or authenticator, to export at all.
- Save the file. On mobile, the share sheet opens. Save the file to Files, a drive, or another safe place. If you close the sheet without saving, nothing is kept, so export again. On the web, your browser downloads the file.
Each export triggers a "Wallet seed exported" alert by push and email.
Your file password
- Fiber never sees the file password, and can't reset or recover it.
- Each export has its own password. Two files made on the same day get the same name, so label them if you keep more than one.
- If you forget a file's password, that file can't be opened. While you can still sign in, export a new backup with a new password and delete the old file.
- Type the password exactly, including capital letters and spaces.
Use your backup
Fiber's Recovery Tools open your backup on your own device. Neither tool sends your file, password, or keys anywhere.
- Recover in your browser: one HTML file that finds the address you sent to and sends the funds out. Start here.
- Fiber CLI: prints private keys for EVM networks and Solana, and lists your private balances.
Neither tool moves your private balance, which is where most of your USD sits. Use the Fiber app for that.
Don't import the .fiberseed file itself into MetaMask or another wallet. It isn't a wallet keystore, so wallets reject it, for example with "not a V3 wallet." Get the private key from a recovery tool instead.
If you didn't export it
If you get a "Wallet seed exported" alert you don't recognize:
- Open Settings > Security > Logged in devices and revoke the device named in the alert.
- Contact support right away from the assistant chat. See Assistant & Support.
Troubleshooting
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Saving files is not available on this device | The phone can't save the file | Export from the web app instead |
| Wallet export requires an updated native build with protected keys | Your app version is too old | Update the Fiber app |
| The wallet seed could not be exported. Try again. | The export didn't finish | Try again, or use the web app |
| A recovery tool says the password is wrong | The password doesn't match this file | Type it exactly. Each export has its own password. If you can't recover it, export a new backup. |
